Jorge adopted CJ in Florida in 1997. "...We walked around the cages and saw all those desperate eyes telling their stories...It hurt my heart to see them. I spotted two dogs right away. | He ran around madly jumping all over us. He licked and licked, then licked some more. He knew that this was his chance to get out of the kennel and away from his past. There were little spots on his head where the hair was missing.
CJ's previous owners had burned him with cigarettes and there were traces of gunpowder in his blood. I guess they were trying to make him a fighter. Because he wasn't, they threw him out.
Anyway CJ had decided; he chose us. He and my roommate convinced me that we should take him home. We learned later that CJ's days were numbered; if he didn't find a home soon, they were going to have to destroy him. We had rescued an innocent life from death row..."
